My hotel room (Carmana Plaza) is basically a furnished apartment in downtown Vancouver so I thought I would check out the market across the street (Urban Fair) and rack on some groceries on the company.
I ended up seeing a variety pack of Heirloom tomatoes as soon as I walked in and my excitement took over.
Here is the end result:
Heirloom tomatoes with dandelion greens in an orange and lime juice dressing with cilantro, garlic and Serrano chili.
No Salt, no oil, so I added some black forest Schinkenspeck on a crusty green olive loaf of bread.
Before
After
Nothing elaborate, just beautiful ingredients allowed to shine. Having Heirloom tomatoes readily available to me was both inspiring, and crushing at the same time because to my knowledge, they aren't available where I spend 11 months of the year. If they are, PLEASE let me know because growing and looking after a few varieties of Heirlooms tomato plants has just become a strong contender for a retirement plan. Right up there with having my own grape vines and running a little fish taco stand on the Baja.
I also got myself a nice Malbec that isn't available in the Whitehorse Liquor store.
I'll write something about it later when I get into it more but first impressions are: Pretty damn nice.
